A year of change and challenge

New Zealand Credit Union Employees is continuing to be competitive in today’s market with the launch of a new banking platform.

Chair Sam Maw is optimistic about NZCUE’s path into the New Year, but advises members to only borrow what is needed and can be paid back.

The biggest and most exciting change in 2019 has been the move to the new banking platform which brings an expansion of digital offerings.

For General Manager Ahukona Hatalafale – commonly known as Kona, the achievement of changing to the new banking platform in February 2019 “opened more opportunities for the credit union to shift into a more digital space of operation,” he says.

“An example of this will be the offering of online loan assessments and being able to track the loan’s application progress on the mobile app.”

The app brings an advantage when lending to small and medium size enterprises, as voted on in a special general meeting that took place earlier in the year, starting from 1 January, 2020.

With a client relationship with Baywide for banking services, Chairman Sam Maw says NZCU Employees will look at options to add benefits for members in terms of services.

“We want to ensure we continue to offer competitive savings rates, products and loans our members can afford to service,” says Sam.

“Some exciting new services include home loans and grid lending to small business. If you’re looking to buy a house, or need a loan for your business, come and talk to our friendly staff.”

With the good success of the KiwiSaver offering, as well insurance products, the trustees encourage members to keep saving with the credit union and to begin as early as January when it comes to saving up for Christmas.

Sam advises that a Loan Provider account gives easier access to loans and will help smooth any unexpected family expenses.

If there are any financial challenges, Kona urges members speak with NZCU Employees staff.

“I encourage all members to make contact with us and we will work with you to find a solution.”

Sam agrees, adding their staff are well equipped and willing to help all members.
