Solomona’s Christmas wishes saved by NZCU Employees

Having been an NZCU Employees member since 2010, Solomona Mata’afa says joining is one of the best decisions he’s ever made.

NZCU were the only ones who offered to help him when he needed money for bills and family fa’alavelaves (emergencies).

The Samoan father of three, who works at Placemakers, says NZCU Employees has been beyond helpful, not just because the credit union has his interests at heart, but because of the way he’s treated whenever he calls in.

“It’s really good,” says Solomona, who primarily speaks Samoan.

“They’ve been a big help to me and my family. They offered support and their services are easy to understand.”

As with many Pacific families, Solomona has had a few sudden fa’alavelaves.

He says he and his wife would not have been able to contribute towards them financially without the help of NZCU Employees.

On top of lending and debt consolidation services, NZCU Employees has helped Solomona save money throughout the year with Christmas Club membership. The club is how he originally discovered the credit union.

“A man I worked with told me about the NZCU Employees Christmas Club, which helps you save money that you cannot touch until the end of the year.”

By depositing regular amounts into an account throughout the year, which also accumulates interest, Solomona is always pleasantly surprised by the extra money he has to spend on his family.

“Ever since I’ve joined, every Christmas I’ve saved around two grand, which is really handy.”

Solomona also recently won an NZCU Employees promotion, for which he is grateful.

But the biggest reward, says Solomona, is knowing he’s a valued member of NZCU Employees.

“They make processes really easy to understand for me.”
